1. Helmets & Protective Gear

  • Helmets are required for riders under 18, for all throttle equipped bikes such as Power e-bikes, Fat Tire e-bikes and cargo e-bikes, and strongly recommended for all other bikes.
  • Riders should wear closed-toe shoes and appropriate riding attire.
  • For e-bikes or rugged terrain biking, additional protective gear (gloves, eyewear) is recommended.

2. Bike Fit, Condition & Orientation

  • Each rental bike must be inspected before departure: brakes, tires, chain, and gears must be functioning.
  • Staff will provide a quick orientation on how to use the bike and adjust seat and controls.
  • Ensure the bike is correctly sized and suited to the rider’s strength and experience level.

3. Route Selection & Terrain

  • Choose routes appropriate for your skill level and the least experienced rider in your group.
  • Avoid steep, loose, or technical terrain unless all riders are comfortable and experienced.
  • Slow down on unfamiliar paths and be prepared for pedestrians, vehicles, and wildlife.

4. Traffic Rules & Sharing the Path

  • Obey all traffic laws, signals, and signs when riding on streets or bike lanes.
  • Ride on the right side of the road and use hand signals when turning or stopping.
  • Yield to pedestrians, announce when passing, and ride single-file when paths are narrow or busy.

5. Weather, Visibility & Night Riding

  • Check the weather before departure; avoid riding in thunderstorms, heavy rain, or icy conditions.
  • Use front and rear lights and wear bright or reflective clothing in low light conditions.
  • Reduce speed on wet, sandy, or leaf-covered surfaces to prevent slipping.

6. E-Bike Specific Safety

  • Start in the lowest assist level and get used to acceleration before increasing power.
  • Be aware that e-bikes are heavier and take longer to stop—brake early and smoothly.
  • Do not tamper with speed limiters or modify the bike’s electrical system.

7. Alcohol, Drugs & Fatigue

  • Never ride under the influence of alcohol, cannabis, or any impairing substances.
  • Take breaks, drink water, and listen to your body—fatigue reduces reaction time and control.

8. Children & Passengers

  • Children must always wear helmets and be supervised by a responsible adult.
  • Only carry passengers on bikes or accessories specifically designed and rated for that purpose.
  • Secure child seats, trailers, and cargo carefully before every ride.

9. Returns, Damage & Incident Reporting

  • Return bikes on time to avoid late fees and to allow for proper inspection before the next rental.
  • You are responsible for damage beyond normal wear and tear; report any issues immediately.
  • In case of an accident or injury, contact emergency services first, then notify Tahoe Bike & Snow Co.

By taking these precautions, you help ensure a fun, safe riding experience for yourself and others.
